BMX racing

What is BMX racing?

The BMX Racing discipline saw the light of day in the early 1970s in the United States, when children, to imitate their motocross idols, began racing their bikes on dirt tracks. This gave rise to the name “Bicycle MotoCross”, which later became the abbreviation BMX. Today, BMX Racing is an established international cycling sport discipline.

BMX Racing is one of cycling’s most intense sprint disciplines, where technique, overview and strength must come together in a higher unity. BMX Racing is driven on a short track with a series of jumps and turns, where the fastest riders can reach 40-50 km/h during a heat that typically lasts 35-40 seconds.

On a worldwide level, BMX Racing is undergoing rapid development, because the discipline became an Olympic sport 12 years ago. Today, the most successful nations work with top professionals and targeted concepts.
